I've just finished my next book, called "Led Zeppelin Crashed Here. the Locations of America's Rock and Roll Landmarks" (out this May from Santa Monica Press). In researching and writing it, it was hard not to pay attention to the rock and roll landmark that for years graced HBthe little gem known as The Golden Bear. You know the history; Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doorseven a tale that the Rolling Stones once secretly crept in to hear Gram Parsons play in 1969. (The photo is an old Golden Bear matchbook and supposed brick from the place.)
I like that the Golden Bear question is posed. Had the old place been kept alive no doubt it'd be a gold mine now. So I hope someone has the vision to realize that a beach cities musical venue is essential. Anybody here ever visit the original Golden Bear? Thoughts?
